Description

Testware's Programming Foundations for SilkTest course teaches programming fundamentals to testers involved in regression or performance test automation. After completing the course, attendees should be able to modify automated testing scripts created via record/playback and manually code basic scripts from scratch. Content includes programs, variables, data types, operators, branching, looping and functions.

This course is taught using the C-like 4Test language built into Borland Software's SilkTest package. The course can also be taught using other test tools or a rudimentary C, Basic or other high-level language compiler.

Course Objectives

Be able to modify existing automated testing scripts
Be able to create basic automated testing scripts from scratch
Know the differences between variables and constants and when to use either
Know the properties of fundamental data types (integer, string, boolean, etc.) and understand data type matching
Understand the various arithmetic operators available and the order of operations
Be familiar with using relational and logical operators to test for conditions
Understand how to use looping statements to control program iteration and flow
Understand functions, function definitions, when to use functions, built-in functions and global vs. local variables
Know how to read from and write to external files
Understand complex data structures like lists and records

Audience, Prerequisites

QA testers and engineers who want to take their automation skills beyond record/playback by manually modifying recorded scripts and/or coding scripts manually from scratch. No previous experience with programming is necessary, but attendees should be familiar with the Microsoft Windows environment and possess basic text file editing skills.

Course Length, Format, Logistics

Course length: 2 days

Course format: lecture plus individual and group exercises completed primarily on a personal computer (PC) using Borland Software's SilkTest automation tool, another language-based test tool or a rudimentary C, Basic or other high-level language compiler

Course logistics: each attendee needs a PC with SilkTest, another language-based test tool or a C, Basic or other high-level language compiler pre-installed and configured. Each attendee will be provided with his/her own copy of the course manual and exercise set.

Location

Testware teaches this course (and all Testware courses) to groups of 3 or more individuals from the same company. Our instructors teach onsite (at or near your company's site) on a date convenient to your organization. Location options include, but are not limited to:

a training room in your office
a conference room in your office
a training or conference center near your office

Price:

$6,000 for class, plus $50 per student for materials.

Example: For 10 students the total for the class and materials would be $6,500.

The above pricing does not include instructor travel and subsistence expenses. These expenses will be billed to your company by Testware at cost.
