SQL for Software Testers

Description

This two day, hands-on course provides students with a working knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) to be more effective in testing software applications. This course provides a foundation of knowledge of database structures and SQL commands, and provides hands-on experience specifically for testers. The course will be taught using a backend Access db and writing the SQL commands via Access and/or MSQUERY. Section IV will address differences in syntax between SQL for Oracle and SQLServer.

Course Objectives

Describe the basic structures of databases
Write SQL code to populate test databases
Write SQL code to validate results from dynamic testing
Use SQL code for static testing techniques
Use SQL for data mining to generate better test cases
Use SQL to generate sets of test data
Write SQL to test stored procedures
Actively participate in technical discussions of the database with the programmers

Audience, Prerequisites

The course is intended for beginner or intermediate testers, analysts and engineers who need to develop a working knowledge of SQL to support their testing efforts.

Course Length, Format, Logistics

Course length: 2 days

Course format: lecture plus individual and group exercises and discussions.

Course logistics: Each attendee will need access to a personal computer or workstation. Each attendee is provided with his/her own copy of the course manual and exercise set.

Location

Testware teaches this course (and all Testware courses) to groups of 3 or more individuals from the same company. Our instructors teach onsite (at or near your company's site) on a date convenient to your organization. Location options include, but are not limited to:

a training room in your office
a conference room in your office
a training or conference center near your office

Price:

$6,000 for class, plus $50 per student for materials.

Example: For 10 students the total for the class and materials would be $6,500.

The above pricing does not include instructor travel and subsistence expenses. These expenses will be billed to your company by Testware at cost.
